ARTIST STATEMENT
Photography is significant in that it allows for both a contemplative and spontaneous practice. The resulting works demonstrate a subconscious attraction to colors, contrast, shapes, and lines and the sense of structure those elements produce when combined. My aesthetic is derived from my background in design and architecture; it is consistent between pieces, though no two are the same.
My body of work reflects a conscious choice to emotionally detach myself from preconceived notions of what photography is supposed to be. Through various photographic experiments, both outdoors and indoors, I am able to work freely and intuitively. The most recent of which includes setting up and photographing temporary installations constructed from neon wires and plexiglass.
The essence of the work is intangible as I have deliberately excluded the context of the image. This allows the viewer to make connections to a piece beyond an immediate recognition or attachment to a realistic place or scene.
